Lift-in Details for Saturday May 10th
Our lift-In operation will be a little different from the last couple of years.  It will be a one day operation as oppose to two days, and members are not assigned to the various teams, only the leaders of the teams.  Club members are expected, as in the past, to volunteer and freely participate with all aspects of the lift-in operations on Saturday.  Please do not disappear to your boat as soon as you are in the water.

Members participating in the lift-in operation should be wearing appropriate safety equipment.  Our goal on Saturday is to have a successful and safe operation.  Should the weather not be suitable for placing masts on Saturday's lift-in day, then it will be completed the following Saturday, May 17 2008.

Lifting operations are scheduled to commence on Saturday morning at 06:30 AM, and the placement of masts at 07:00 AM.  All Members are expected to be onsite, available to assist, and have their boats ready for launching.  Please do not have the crane held waiting for you as we are battling the clock against the tides.

Members are reminded that the new HMPC Capital Improvement Fee has been assessed at $500 for boats 25' and over, while all boats less than 25' are assessed $300.

Remember - No Cash... No Splash!!!

Yaaa Hooo... The Finger Piers are Finally Here !!!

After too many years of wheeling and dealing, they have finally arrived.  The first eight piers have been installed, and the remainder are enroute, and will be in place prior to launch. Click here for more pictures.

The final, and most enjoyable  phase will be to plan for a ladder  auction, followed by a ladder burning ceremony.  Standby for details

Removal of Dock Lines on Pier One

If you have not already done so, all members on pier one are asked to drop by the marina and ensure that your dock lines have been removed.

If you chose to sink them in the fall, you need to go up and disconnect them from the cables that attach them to the mooring blocks, as some of them have started to float.  You and your neighbours won't be happy if they get caught in a prop!!!!

It is IMPERATIVE that they be removed prior to launch.  In fact, they SHOULD be removed ASAP to avoid interference with the new finger pier installation.  Who knows... it may be your propeller that get entangled!!!

The Terra Nova Yacht Club is nestled at the inner basin of the Town of Holyrood, which opens onto the spectacular sailing waters of Conception Bay.  Our Club is just a 15 minute drive west of the rapidly growing Town of Conception Bay South which meanders along scenic Conception Bay Highway (route 60), or just 30 minutes west of our provincial capital, the City of St. John's along the Trans Canada Highway (route 1).  You are guaranteed not to miss the inviting call of our sailing masts as you meander along the well kept and tourist lookout on the beach of Holyrood Arm.
Please take the time to sign our guest-book at the bottom of this page.

The Holyrood Marina Park Corporation was incorporated as a non-profit company, and is tasked with providing vision and guidance with respect to the future operation and development of the Holyrood Marina.  Frank Barron is the HMPC marina supervisor, and can be reached during the summer boating season (May - October) at 229-4348, or via email at  hmpc@nfld.com.

Tales from the Cockpit

Terra Nova Yacht Club invites all its members and friends to pass along any stories or tales they have experienced while sailing the waters of Newfoundland, or any of their sailing experiences worldwide.  These can be light hearted stories, or stories that we might all do well to learn from the experiences of others.  Please send your tale to tnyc@tnyc.nfld.net.

Power Cables and Extension Cords

Members are requested to disconnect shore electrical connections when not aboard their boats.  The main concern would be fire hazard for those without certified connectors, however, there is also a strong suspicion of stray leaking ground currents getting into the water, causing excessive corrosion.  You cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

Financial  Assistance - Wharf Repairs at Little Hr, Trinity Bay
We are very fortunate that a dedicated group of our fellow boaters have taken upon themselves the task of ensuring that the wharf and sheds at Little Harbour - Popes Harbour do not lapse into a state of unusable disrepair.

Every summer, dozens of boaters make the passage to Trinity Bay, and most spend at least a night or two safely tied to the wharf in Little Harbour.  We all know that when tied at that wharf, you are safe from any of the nasty winds that Trinity Bay can throw at you.  And, of course, Petley is only a short protected sail down the sound for those needing groceries, ice, a shower, fuel, or maybe a crew change.

I would ask all boaters to take the time to appreciate the comfort of having such a safe haven, and to financially help those who are so unselfishly giving of their time to get the work done on our behalf.  Please click this link to view a copy of the appeal letter posted by the Smith Sound Boating Committee.  Or perhaps you could download it and forward it to a fellow boater, whether they be a TNYC member or not, or maybe post it in a conspicuous place.  If everybody contributed only a small amount, that committee could get the badly needed funds to ensure this facility does not fall into a state of disrepair, and disappear entirely.

If you choose to inquire by email, just send it to ssbc@canada.com, or click on the email link to automatically open your email client.

MMSI (Marine Mobile Service Identity)

A number of our TNYC members now own VHF radios that are enabled for digital selective calling (DSC), and have expressed an interest in creating a repository of MMSI numbers.  If you are interested in having your MMSI added to that list, please forward it to me.  I'm not sure just yet how we will share this info, but collecting it is the first step.  Just click here to send me your info, or email it to tnyc@tnyc.nfld.net.  For more information on this topic click this Industry Canada link to download their June 2003 circular.
