Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, it’s off to work we go,

With tools in hand,

And cushions in trunk,

No snow, no snow, no snow.

Well it’s that time of year again when the phrase, “do not apply if the temperature is less than 10 degrees”, has to be taken in the context of the Fahrenheit scale.

For those who may not know, the lift in is set for May 17th, and everyone is expected to be up bright and early, 07:00 am, and ready to go.  For those who go up on Friday night, some exception will be given to the “bright” requirement.

Ralph will be in attendance with his green sweater on, uttering the phrase, No Cash No Splash”, so please bring along two cheques, or if paying cash, bring as close to the correct amount as possible, with small bills.   Click here to view the fee schedule.

For those with a few loonies left over, Ed and Dora will be selling tickets and lots of good eats for the hungry work crews.  Many thanks to all of those who donate soup, chili, stews, cookies, muffins etc., as this is one of the big fund raisers for the social committee, and we all know how well Dora and Ed put the profits to good use.

On the Social Scene, E&D have a good slate already with a BBQ set for May 3rd, a Lobster boil set for the 24th and a tentative BBQ with the Cruising Club for the 21st.

For those not familiar with the Cruising Club, it is a group of sailors who like to share the company of others over the summer in the way of cruises and, especially over the winter, in a social and information sharing setting.  A huge membership fee of $10.00 per year is all that it will cost you.  For those who have not been at the Labour Day run and fish supper, you are missing a great event.

Dan has prepared a list of do’s and don’ts for lift in as noted below and has put together a lift-in team to ensure safety.  Click here for details.

Also, please remember that your mast has to be moved off the rack and the spreaders put back on prior to placement.  This activity will be coordinated with the boats as lifted in to avoid congestion on the roadway.

Dan has also had the tough job of realigning the berths to maximize space and provide everyone with the appropriate berth space for their size of boat.  Changes made will be kept to a minimum and are only undertaken as a necessity.  If you are affected, your understanding and cooperation is appreciated.

Everyone is everyone is expected to be ready when it is time to go, so please ensure that your engine is ready to run, all of your through hulls are closed or have hoses properly connected, and that knot-log that was removed for ventilation last fall has been put back in.  PS.. take it from me, it is a good idea to remove the masking tape from your knot log after painting before you put the boat in the water rather than later. (Actually it wasn’t me, but hey why point fingers now, the “Flying Gybe Award” is still eight months away).

One last item….  The Town of Holyrood is not insisting on the moving of cradles off site this year, which will provide an opportunity for members to carry out repairs and maintenance.  Cradles will be stored as neat as possible to avoid having the club area look untidy.  If we end up with a situation requiring further attention we may have to revert to storing the cradles off-site.  So take the opportunity to get that cradle maintenance done as soon as possible.

That’s all for now folks.
