In the May 1 issue...
BOAT REVIEW: THE NEW HUNTER 38

You'll have to abide by some unconventional aesthetics, but once you get beyond those, this new midsize cruiser offers a number of useful innovations, along with a good turn of speed, and it's priced to sell.

BIG-SCREEN CHARTPLOTTERS
Among the three less expensive units we tested (all under $2,000), the Standard Horizon CP1000C emerged as our top pick. It's got the longest warranty, a competitive price, and scores highly in the viewability ratings.

REEFING PREFERENCES OF THE PROS
We interviewed delivery skippers from around the country to determine what mainsail reefing systems--and what specific gear--works best in their experience.

Also in this issue...
Editorial: Into the Fray; Mailport; Maintenance: Battle of the White Bottom Paints; Chandlery: Harken's Carbo Ratchet Blocks, New Marina Guidebook, Load Lock, and Accon's New Bimini Fitting; and PS Advisor. Varnish Trouble and Radar Mounts.

In the May 15 issue...
TROLLING MOTOR TEST

After putting four new trolling motors through their paces (two 12V and two 24V models), we end up favoring one from each of the two major manufacturers. All of them are quiet, and powerful enough to push small boats along, but one is equipped with numerous features, which carries it to the top if our test.

SEABERTHS EXAMINED
It's almost rare these days to find a contemporary production-built sailboat intended for offshore use that's fitted with proper seaberths. To address this issue, we offer a discussion of why seaberths are needed, and what constitutes a proper one.

Also in this issue...
Mailport; Gear Graveyard: Hevea Thermo Boot; Chandlery: The Absorber, and The Brushkeeper; PS Advisor: C-Flex Construction and Sharpening Knives.
